Gunther Martin Göttche next home organist of the Redeemer Church in Jerusalem

Gunther Martin Göttche has been appointed next home organist of the Redeemer Church in the Old City of Jerusalem. He will arrive at the beginning of next year and take over the Schuke organ of Elisabeth Roloff who passed away three years ago. Elisabeth Roloff was a well-known organ concerts-player throughout the world. She arrived in Jerusalem in the late seventies and decided to settle here for good. She was very active as an organ-player, a choir-conductor, a wonderful organ teacher,at the Jerusalem Dance and Music Academy, and accompanied great artists such as the singer Cilla Grossmeyer and the trumpetist Ilan Eshed. She recorded many CD's including one where she may be heard playing on several organs of Jerusalem. The Voice of the Music- Israel Broadcasting Corporation. has made numberless recordings of her concerts at the Redeemer Church and also the Dormition Abbey, the Augusta Victoria Church and the Mormon BYU Institute. Gunther Martin Göttche was also born in Germany where he learned organ-playing, composition, improvisation and choir-conducting. We welcome him and wish him many happy and successful years here, for the greatest pleasure of all organ-lovers in this country.

  Three new organs in Nazareth

The two Italian organs of the Nazareth Annunciation Basilica have been dismantled and three brand-new ones have now taken their place . They were made by the Austrian organ-builder Rieger. The same organ- builder has already built in Jerusalem the organs of the Holy Sepulcher, the Saint Georges Anglican Cathedral, the Saint Saviour Franciscan Monastery and in Bethlehem the Saint Catherine Church of the Nativity. In the upper floor of the Basilica stands a 49 stops organ with three manual and one pedal keyboards. In the lowest floor, where the Italian Tamburini organ was, stands a 17 stops, two manual and one pedal keyboards. The third organ is in the small Saint Joseph church built in the close vicinity of the Annunciation Basilica. It is a 10 stops organ with one manual and one pedal keyboards. A detailed description of these organs will appear shortly on our website.
