The Oratorio "Jerusalem"
op.90
by Gunther Martin Goettsche

Many of us know Mr. Gunther Goettsche, the organist of the Redeemer Church and the Augusta Victoria Church in Jerusalem, fully dedicated to his duties as "Cantor" of the Lutheranian Community in Jerusalem. He also gave several organ concerts within the framework of our Israel International Organ Festival, including two concerts with his wife Heidrun Goettsche, a soprano singer endowed with a rich and
moving voice.

What we did not know about him is that Gunther Goettsche is also, and mainly, a composer, mainly liturgical music for organ, choir, solists and orchestra.
For the best part of the last year Gunther Goettsche has been busy writing a breath-taking huge Oratorio for two organs, two choirs, four solists singers and one very large orchestra.

This piece is called "Jerusalem" opus 90 and it lasts two hours and 15 minutes.

We are bringing here for the members of our Association but also for the public at large a video recording of this masterpiece, played for the first time in Landau (Germany) on the 14-07-2017. This "Passion" reminds us of the great "Passions" written in the great German tradition. It is written on many texts selected from the New Testament. To our knowledge, it is the first "Passion" ever written in Jerusalem by a composer living in the Old City, close to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.
